I'm taking over temporarily because my husband relayed your recommendations to play Rune Factory and frankly I'm the virtual farming enthusiast in this family. Now I didn't play more then like 5 minutes of this game, so I don't think I can properly rate it, but we will temporarily place it on the list and then see if it holds up when it does get played. While same-sex marriage wasn't part of the original Japanese release of Rune Factory 5, it will be added to the game via a patch after the North American release. Hopefully, these steps will also encourage a gender-neutral pronoun option in future Rune Factory and Story of Seasons games, offering players more ways to relate to their characters, and better representing the diverse demographic that enjoy playing these types of games.
By adding diversity and inclusion into well-known game series, it sets an example for other developers of both AAA and indie games alike. The inclusion of same-sex marriage options in Rune Factory 5 and other XSEED and Marvelous games is an important step forward in the simulation and farming genre of games. It also makes romantic relationships that unfold throughout the story more meaningful to every player and invites a wider audience to enjoy the stories these titles offer. The ability to romance any character regardless of gender is important for players who identify with these options and allows them a way to better relate to gameplay.
Popular indie titles like Stardew Valley have included LGBTQ marriage upon release and more recent games developed by XSEED and Marvelous, including Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town and Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, have both offered the option as well. Same-sex marriage options have recently become a regular and important addition to simulation genre games.
#Rune factory 4 romance options series
While not currently featured in the Japanese version of Rune Factory 5 released earlier this year, it was confirmed that the North American version will include same-sex marriage options with all 12 of the available marriage candidates, making it the first in the series to offer such inclusion.
Rune Factory 5 is a slice-of-life simulation game with combat and RPG elements and is the first entry in the series since Rune Factory 4 in 2014. An inclusive step has been taken for the upcoming North American Nintendo Switch launch of Rune Factory 5, slated for release on March 22, 2022.
